All-on-4® implants placed at our Richmond, VA, practice are an advanced way to secure a full, permanent denture. This method requires only four specially designed dental implants placed at specific angles to maximize support provided by the jaw. This configuration allows Dr. William Davey Crockett to attach a restoration on the same day as your implant surgery. At Davey Crockett Dentistry, we have an in-house ceramist who can craft a restoration that is almost identical to your teeth. Therefore, you can arrive with a compromised smile and leave with an attractive and fully restored smile that will allow you to smile with confidence and enjoy all the foods you love.
All-on-4 implants can support a full denture immediately following placement.
Are You an All-on-4 Candidate?
If you need to replace all teeth on the upper or lower jaw, you may be a candidate for All-on-4. Dr. Crockett will determine your candidacy by reviewing your health history for autoimmune disease, bleeding disorders, or other conditions that could compromise healing. He will also evaluate your gums to look for signs of periodontal disease, which must be resolved before moving ahead with implants.
Because these posts are much smaller than standard implants, they will have less impact on your jaw, and you will experience reduced discomfort.
As part of your initial evaluation, Dr. Crockett will take x-rays and digital scans of your jawbone. The jaw will lose bone tissue over time following tooth loss. In many cases, patients who have experienced a small degree of bone atrophy can still receive All-on-4. However, a bone graft may be necessary if your jaw lacks sufficient tissue to support implants. Based on his findings during your initial consultation, Dr. Crockett can create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.
The All-on-4 Treatment Process
Before surgery, Dr. Crockett will administer local anesthesia. He can also provide nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation to help you achieve deep relaxation.
Once you are comfortable, your dentist will create four small incisions in your gums. Through these incisions, he will place four implant posts. Next, he will close the incisions in a way that leaves the implants exposed above the gumline. Immediately after your surgery, he will attach a temporary full-arch restoration to the posts. This denture will allow you to eat and speak normally as you heal. After about four to six months, once the implants have fused to the bone tissue, you can return to our office to receive your permanent denture.
The Benefits of All-on-4
All-on-4, like all types of dental implants, can significantly improve your dental health and oral function. They will keep your denture firmly in place at all times, allowing you to eat all the tough, chewy, or sticky foods you love. They will also allow you to enunciate clearly. Meanwhile, the presence of your implants will prevent the bone atrophy that normally follows tooth loss.
All-on-4 offers the additional benefit of allowing you to experience fully restored dental function immediately following surgery. Traditional implants, on the other hand, require patients to wait until the jaw has completely healed. However, it is important to understand that in some cases, traditional implants may be the better choice.
