Repair Decayed and Damaged Teeth with Tooth-Colored Fillings

Side-by-side comparison of an amalgam filling and composite filling. Similar to a metal dental filling, tooth-colored fillings at our Richmond, VA, practice seal the tooth after cavity treatment, while offering the advantage of blending discreetly with your other teeth. Dr. Crockett offers this beneficial restorative treatment in place of conventional silver fillings because of its ability to bond securely with teeth and prevent future cavities. At Davey Crockett Dentistry, tooth-colored fillings can be used to repair a tooth that has been damaged by decay, injury, or trauma.

When Is a Tooth-colored Filling Necessary?

Tooth-colored fillings are made with mercury-free composite resin, a durable combination of glass and plastic particles. When a tooth has been affected by minor to moderate tooth decay, composite resin can fill the cavity, seal the tooth, and restore dental function and natural aesthetics. Composite resin provides a more natural-looking approach to repairing teeth.

A tooth-colored filling is a relatively easy procedure performed daily in our office that can be completed in just one office visit.

Common signs of tooth decay or damage include toothache, dental sensitivity, and visible signs of pitting or holes in the enamel of the tooth. When more extensive damage has occurred, Dr. Crockett can provide a dental crown to restore the structural integrity and appearance of the tooth.

What Happens During the Procedure?

To identify tooth decay, Dr. Crockett will use advanced digital x-ray technology. A tooth-colored filling is a relatively easy procedure performed daily in our office that can be completed in just one office visit. Before beginning the procedure, he will numb the tooth and surrounding soft tissue with a local anesthetic.

Next, he will remove the unhealthy bacteria and carefully clean the tooth. He will then tint the composite resin to blend with the natural shade of your tooth and begin filling the cavity. Dr. Crockett will layer, manipulate, and mold the putty-like material to ensure it matches the shape and size of your tooth. He will then use a special curing light to harden the resin and strengthen the tooth. During the final step, he will trim any excess resin and polish the tooth for a proper fit and natural sheen.

Although we provide advanced technology in a state-of-the-art facility, we are committed to providing our patients with affordable treatment and care.
